Now that the warm weather has finally settled it in, it seems that the fish have begun to enjoy the consistency. Big snook and reds are…
moving out of their winter holes towards their summer and fall spawning habits. That means that fishing is very good right now…if you know where these transition points are. White bait is every where. The bridges are loaded with thread-fin hearing and the Skyway is loaded with scaled sardines. I have been catching my bait on the grass flats. A few throws of the cast net and I am ready to go catch fish like this one:
While catching red fish, snook over 30″ have been working us over. These fish are angry. The explosions we have seen as the snook pop the recently chummed baits has been remarkable. We have even seen red fish jump while going after our scaled sardines. Fishing is on fire. Well it does seem like a Chinese fire drill when big snook are crushing your baits and taking your line into the mangroves. The “home wrecker” also affectionately know as a snook is a quality opponent, making even the most seasoned of anglers rethink his or her skills. The home wrecker gets his name from its addictive enticements. Chasing snook has led many fisherman into divorce and unemployment. Snook can be very hard to get to the boat and a determined angler will some times abandoned all in pursuit of these line-siders. Thankfully, Tampa Fishing Charters creates an atmosphere where theses monster can be battled without their home wrecking tendencies and if the snook get the best of us, there are always other fish to catch:
Red fish are also a quality opponent, and unlike the snook your chances of getting them to the boat is modestly more achievable.
Even these little guys are fun:
Don’t miss out on spring fishing in Florida. You might just catch the fish of a lifetime.
